Our expert local air duct cleaning company works in the Des Moines and Ames areas. Supreme Air Duct Cleaning provides the only way to avoid all of the airborne germs, bacteria, and pollen which have built up in the ductwork of your home. Your furnace and air conditioner run – sending the stale air inside your home from room to room. This pushes the same pollutants around your house – again and again. To clean your home from these pollutants, it is recommended by experts that you have your air ducts professionally cleaned every two years. In areas of the country where the heat is not necessary for lengthy periods in the winter months, it might not be such a problem because furnaces don’t run for so long. But, here in Iowa, having an air duct cleaner on a regular schedule is imperative. Because we use our furnaces for months throughout the long winter season, the air becomes stale.

Questions About Air Duct Cleaning
What is typically found inside of air duct lines?
Many times air ducts are not cleaned after the construction of the house. During construction, sawdust and sheetrock dust, along with other construction debris have a tendency to fall down the vent lines and then get pulled into the air return lines. Along with that is the normal dust that naturally collects in the lines from years of use. Also, if there are pets, you have pet hair and dander that collects in the vent lines. If your house is 5 years or older and has never had the air vent lines cleaned, it is not surprising to find around 5-20 pounds of debris. Imagine this dust and debris continually circulating in the air of your home?
We also find small toys and food items that young children have conveniently dropped down into the vent lines through the registers or after removing the registers. Occasionally we find beer cans and pop cans! We have seen mice as well.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health such as mold, fungi, bacteria, and very small particles of dust. The removal of such contaminants from the HVAC system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve indoor air quality.
Will cleaning the duct lines assist in keeping the house free of dust?
Yes, it only makes sense that if you have dust in the air duct lines that it is circulating through the system and into the air of your house. A simple rule is that if your house gets dusty within a week after the last dusting, chances are that your air ducts need to be cleaned. Another way to check is to look at your AC air filter. If the filter collects dust rapidly, then chances are you should clean your system. Understand this, no filter can stop all dust. If it could, no air would go through the filter. And if you are wondering what type of air filter we recommend, click here.
What Are The Health Benefits Of Air Duct Cleaning?
Along with removing the dust and debris, by cleaning the air ducts using our “GREEN AIRE SOLUTIONS” equipment, we will also remove mold, bacteria, allergens, and fungi. Also if you have pets, air duct cleaning will remove hair and dander that collects in the ductwork. All in all, the cleaning of the air duct system will remove all dirt and contaminants that may cause breathing issues. Cleaning the air vents will improve indoor air quality.
How can I tell if the system has been cleaned properly?
The best way is to watch the cleaning technicians while they clean. Inspect the registers, inside the furnace, the filter, anywhere. Have the technicians show you video or picture proof of cleaning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions while they are cleaning and have them explain what they are doing and why.
How long does it take for a typical air duct cleaning?
This depends on the number of air duct lines, number of returns, the number of furnace units. Some very large houses require two, if not three furnace units while small houses require just one. Obviously the larger the house, the more there is to clean so the longer it will take.
A house with one furnace and around 10 air supply vents and three or four returns will typically take around 3 hours (ballpark) while a larger house with a couple furnace units and 20 air ducts and 8+ returns will take around 6 hours. These are estimates as we never know what we run into and it could take less time or more.
What does a typical air duct cleaning cost?
Duct cleaning costs depend on the size of the house and how many air duct lines, return lines, and furnace units you have. Obviously the more there is to clean the more it is going to cost. Typically the price ranges from $250-750. If you choose to have the “GREEN AIRE SOLUTIONS” total elimination of all contaminants after the dirt, dust, and debris cleaning, it will add another $75-$100. Again, it depends on the size.
