In the Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines area, it’s safe to say that nearly every home has an air duct system. While many people don’t even think about the air ducts, poor health and respiratory conditions could be a result of the ductwork being dirty. The obvious answer is to clean them, but what is the best air duct cleaning equipment to use to get the job done?
Creating The Vacuum
It all starts with negative air pressure. You need to create a large vacuum to be able to pull the dust and debris into a container. At Supreme Air Duct Cleaning we use a Hypervac negative air machine rather than a truck mounted system. The truck mounted system requires you to run a long hose from the truck to the furnace, and opening doors or windows in hot summers or cold winters isn’t ideal. Plus you have a large hose running through the house.
And when you start figuring the loss in vacuum pressure over that long of a distance, there really isn’t much advantage over using the Hypervac with its six foot hose. Our process involves intelligently blocking off other vents and trunk lines to maximize the pressure in a certain area.
Stir Up The Dust
Now that we have vacuum pressure, we need a system to clean the ducts and push the debris to the negative air machine. We use rods with different types and lengths of whips under high air pressure (see photo). Some duct cleaners use brushes, but we have found our system works in almost every situation, while brushes tend to have more difficulty in insulated flex duct. Our system not only removes the dirt and debris from all the nooks and crannies, it blows it on down to the trunk line and then to the negative air machine.
Do It Yourself?
You can see why it’s not practical to “do it yourself” (DIY). The process of cleaning ducts, when done correctly, involves sucking a massive amount of air through the ducts (which your residential vacuum cleaner can’t do!), and using a device to stir up the dust and debris so that the moving air can carry it to the vacuum unit.
Supreme Air Duct Cleaning has been cleaning air ducts for several years, and our before and after pictures speak for themselves. Our cleaning system works! We have the right tools and equipment and we take pride in doing a great job. Our motto is “Healthy Air, Healthy Home.”
