I know there is a debate out there about whether or not air duct cleaning is even necessary. I used to think it was a scam until I really started researching it, as an add-on to my dryer vent cleaning company. I discovered that air duct cleaning is absolutely a needed service and it is NOT a scam, unless performed by guys or gals who don’t give a crap and are just concerned with taking your money. Take a look at the picture to the left and tell me… do you want your family to breathe the air that flows across that crud?!
After watching a few professional companies perform air duct cleaning and figuring out the most efficient and effective way to clean air ducts, and seeing before & after pictures, I soon determined that air duct cleaning is a necessary service to help keep the air in your home healthy! People in Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines are no different than any other part of the country when it comes to wanting to breathe healthy air in their homes. But how do you choose the best company for the job?
People will tell you that the company needs to be NADCA certified. NADCA stands for National Air Duct Cleaners Association. Like most organizations, they have great intentions and they provide great training and resources to help the professional air duct cleaner become their best. But… they want $1,600 per year for membership! While there are several air duct cleaners who are members of NADCA, I can tell you there are a couple in central Iowa who perform lousy services. I know, as I have come in after them and cleaned them the right way.
It’s typically about pricing. Customers call me wanting a quote. I give them a quote and they say they are calling around to get the best price. Be careful with that! Those guys that charge $100 for a whole air duct cleaning need to be watched very carefully. Think about it… to do a good job it takes three to four hours. You have equipment, a vehicle, insurance, taxes, and a helper to pay for. You will never make it in the industry very long at that price, unless you are taking short cuts to save time.
To me, choosing the best air duct cleaner in Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines comes down to two things:
(1) Do they take before and after pictures of everything they do and do they invite you to tag along and ask questions during the process?
(2) Do they offer a money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied?
If they don’t offer those two things, then go with someone else!
